From Seth Godin:
Worth it?
That's a question you hear a lot. "Was it worth it?"Not certain what either "it" refers to, but generally we're saying, "was the destination worth the journey? Was the effort worth the reward?"
The thing about effort is that effort is its own reward if you allow it to be.
So the answer can always be "yes" if you let it.

Hi Todd- Sometimes we are our own worse critics. We have such high expectations for ourselves- and that's good, we should have; but when you've been doing your part or what you think you should be doing and there doesn't seem to be any success it's very discouraging. You've set yourself a goal and you've been working towards it.That's admirable! Whether you're fishing or writing books or doing a blog or trying to lose weight, there are going to be high points and low points. There will be days when no matter what you toss out there, the fish will bite it, or you'll get an email from someone who says how much they liked what you wrote or you'll lose an extra couple of pounds. The fact is, you've come a long way. Don't look at the distance you've got to go, but the distance you've come. You don't know who you might be an inspiration to. Remember, nothing in God's economy goes to waste. Keep on keeping on bro.God bless ya! Tom
